“Throne of the third of heaven” - James Hampton
Hampton was a janitor and a baptist minister who believed when Christ returned he would need a throne to sit on. So James made one using pieces of things he found on his janitorial rounds and covered them in silver and gold foils. No one knew what he had done until he died and loved ones found it while going through his things. He had no formal training in art and this is now featured at the Smithsonian in Washington DC.
